Load your game client and grab the brand new Diablo IV update, which adds ray-traced effects to Sanctuary, making battles more dynamic and spectacular, and image quality even better. And with a GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU, you can multiply performance by up to 3X thanks to DLSS 3.
Additionally, there’s support for DLSS 2 Super Resolution, enabling all GeForce RTX gamers to accelerate frame rates, and support for NVIDIA Reflex, ensuring the most responsive gameplay possible.
Boot up Diablo IV, head to the settings menu and enable the new Ray Tracing option to enable 2 new ray-traced effects that can be individually adjusted and toggled.
Ray Traced Reflections enable bodies of water, pools of blood, and other suitably reflective game elements to mirror events occurring on screen.

Ray Traced Shadows upgrade existing ones, and enable the simultaneous rendering of shadows from all light sources. In big co-op battles, with visual effects continuously illuminating the environment, ray-traced shadow detail is transformative. And each ray-traced shadow boasts accurate contact hardening and softening, allowing shadows to naturally soften as the distance from the shadow caster increases.
In moments of exploration, the overworld, cellars, dungeons and abandoned buildings look even more detailed, with ray-traced shadows naturally cast on and around objects, heightening immersion.
"The launch of Diablo IV was just the beginning for us. We are regularly iterating based on player feedback and exploring how we can enhance the visuals and dark atmosphere of the game. The addition of ray-traced effects is our next step in making the brutal world of Sanctuary feel more immersive than ever,” said Michael Bukowski, Diablo IV Technical Director. “Effects like lightning strikes are now reflected in pools of blood and water, dank cellars and dungeons are more foreboding with realistic soft shadows, and the open world and towns are more grounded with additional realistic shadows and reflections. We are very excited for our community to experience this new technology."
Diablo IV launched with day-one support for DLSS, enabling GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers to max out frame rates with NVIDIA DLSS 3 Frame Generation, and other GeForce RTX users to accelerate performance with DLSS 2’s critically acclaimed Super Resolution technology.
Powered by new hardware capabilities of the NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architecture, DLSS 3 generates entirely new high quality frames, rather than just pixels.
Through a process detailed in full in our NVIDIA DLSS 3 article, DLSS 3 combines DLSS Super Resolution technology and DLSS Frame Generation to reconstruct 7 out of every 8 of the displayed pixels, multiplying performance.
DLSS 3 accelerates frame rates in both GPU and CPU bound scenarios, ensuring your performance is always maxed out, and all DLSS 3 games are backwards compatible with DLSS 2 technology - developers simply integrate DLSS 3, and DLSS 2, also known as DLSS Super Resolution, is supported by default.
With the release of the Diablo IV ray tracing update, DLSS 3 delivers a 3.1X average performance multiplier at 4K, with ray tracing and every other setting maxed out. On the world’s most powerful gaming GPU, the GeForce RTX 4090, players can enjoy the definitive experience, with the very best graphics running at 144 frames per second. The recently-released GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER exceed 100 FPS, and the GeForce RTX 4070 and GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER handily pass 60 FPS.
At 2560x1440, DLSS 3 boosts performance by an average of 2.3X, enabling all GeForce RTX 40 Series gamers to experience Diablo IV at max settings with ray tracing at over 60 FPS:
On GeForce RTX 40 Series laptops, a 2.2X performance multiplier at both 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 enables fast max setting, ray-traced gameplay on many laptop configurations. At 1080p, every laptop tested ran at over 80 FPS, while the GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 laptops hit 120 FPS, with only a CPU bottleneck preventing even faster performance.
At 2560x1440, GeForce RTX 4070 laptops can run at over 67 FPS with everything maxed, GeForce RTX 4080 laptops surpass 100 FPS, and the all-powerful GeForce RTX 4090 laptop achieved a blistering 116 FPS.
NVIDIA Reflex is a game-changer, reducing system latency on GeForce graphics cards and laptops so your actions occur quicker, giving you a competitive edge in multiplayer matches, and making single-player titles more responsive and enjoyable.
Since its debut in September 2020, NVIDIA Reflex is now reducing system latency in over 100 games, over 90% of GeForce gamers enable Reflex. 9 of the top 10 competitive shooters feature Reflex support, such as, Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® III, Call of Duty®: Warzone™, and Overwatch 2, along with critically acclaimed smash hit games such as Diablo IV. And in 2023 alone, GeForce gamers played over 10 billion hours of their favorite titles with increased responsiveness thanks to Reflex’s innovative system latency reducing technology.
Using Reflex, system latency is reduced in Diablo IV, helping you vanquish the forces of evil, delivering responsiveness in intense battles, aiding your quest to stay alive in Hardcore mode, and providing you the ultimate experience against human foes in PvP.
One-click optimal settings in GeForce Experience and the NVIDIA app beta enable you to instantly configure game options for your system’s hardware, giving you smooth, optimized gameplay. Over 1200 titles are supported, and we’ve just rolled out updated optimal settings for Diablo IV’s ray-traced effects.
