You have to properly end the session on the Shield. I'd recommend using Moonlight and use the "quit session" option you get by clicking on the icon of the game you've just exited from.

Accept my deepest gratitude for being so nice as to send the information I required to me. It has been quite beneficial for my site https://techgratify.com/, and I learned a ton about a subject I had previously just partially understood.

Why does it force it back to NVIDIA HDMI out every time? I want to stream to my PC speakers while Game Stream is active, but I can't! Edit: I had to disable NVIDIA HDMI out. It didn't work the first time I tried this, but now it is. I am getting audio to both PC and TV. I think I may have gamestream setting set to "Audio on PC" option.

Yes, you've to set "AUDIO on PC" - ON. Once you do that.. the audio should be present on both Shield device - speakers & your Home PC speakers.

Just for information, a little trick to reinit nvidia streaming server and remove the blocked session : restart the service "NVIDIA LocalSystem Container". You can do it by launching this command line (run cmd in administrator mode, then...) : net stop NvContainerLocalSystem & net start NvContainerLocalSystem

Thank you, @Schmurtzm! I was wondering which service exactly I needed to kill to get rid of the virtual hdmi output and a quick google search later led me here. I just added a little powershell function to my profile named, AmIADummyForTryingGameStreamAgain using this gsudo Restart-Service -Name NvContainerLocalSystem Thanks again!

I was trying out game stream and after the session I exited Game Stream on Nvidia Shield. My wife started up another app on the Shield. I went back upstairs and I could not switch my audio back to PC Speakers. When I went into Sound playback devices to manually set default audio source it would just switch right back to "NVIDIA HDMI out" every time. Is there a correct way to end my Game Stream session or do I have to manually turn this off on GFE app?
