What is RAMDAC?

tengo una duda tengo una integrada ramdac gtx 960m en las especificaciones dice q lamemoria tota es de 6gb y la dedicada es de 2gb ,pudiera usar toda la memoria de la targeta de video o sea los 6gb

Sorry if I sound stupid for saying this, but I just always wanted to know this: What is RAMDAC? I see it in the specs for every video card, and it always seems to be 400MHz. What is it? I've never seen any card with it higher or lower than 400MHz (At least from my browsing). Please help me out, thanks.
