Stability issues may be observed on certain laptops with GeForce GTX 10/MX250/350 series GPUs [4008527]

I can't seem to install this driver with the same technique that worked ok on 527.56. I am on Alienware M17X R4 with upgraded 980m and 527.56 installs fine when I edit the nvdmig.inf file with my card ID and disable driver signature enforcement on W11 22H2. However 531.18 fails to install using the same technique that worked on every single driver before. I am now getting an error about inpompatible Windows version/nvidia hardware not found. Does something else need editing with the latest driver version to be able to install it on the upgraded systems?

Your notebook did not come with this GPU so it was modded. Do you remember what sku the 980M came from?
You are correct - I bought it with 680m and later upgraded to 980m. I had to use modded drivers for 980m all the way up to 387.98. Since 387.98 was released, it officially supported 980m in Alienware M17x R4 and I never had to use the modded inf for the drivers to install ever again.
980m I got is a Dell 8GB version I believe.

430.86 fails to install on my Alienware laptop. My current driver version is 419.35 and it's a standard driver rather than DCH. Please see the system info and the error I am getting in the screenshots. I am on Alienware M17x R4 with Win 10 Pro 1903 x64, 120Hz monitor, 3940xm, GTX 980m. 419.35 installs fine without any errors, but anything newer is a no go with the same error. I installed GeForce Experience, but it states I already have the newest drivers installed... I had the same problem with the same error message on Windows 10 1809. 1903 was a fresh install rather than the upgrade (as I have multiple SSDs) and it's fully updated. Still the same error. I tried installing both standard and DCH for v430.86 just in case and got the same error message on both. Any help would be appreciated. If any more details are required, please let me know :)

It is an installer problem. Use DDU to uninstall and install the new driver after that. From driver 430.53 to 430.64 and to 430.86 it worked correctly. It is a problem concerning detection of older drivers/settings or something like that.
MurN0 said:The DDU will not fix the problems! All 43x.xx drivers have that problem. The 425.31 run´s very good. I think there is no bug fix in the 43x.xx drivers. I hope for a fix with the next driver release
I ran 425.31 and unfortunatelly got the same error :(
Oddly enough 419.35 is the last driver that installs on my system. I wonder what changed in all the newer drivers. Even 419.67 fails to install with the same compatibility error.

Thanks, will try this straight away and post here my results. :)
Edit:
All the driver traces removed via DDU in safe mode now. I tried both versions - standard and DCH to see if one of them offers to continue the installation. Unfortunately, both are still giving the same error.

Thank you for this. I checked which driver version is installed and apparently, it's standard version rather than DCH. As far as I know you can only install standard or DCH but can't change to other. This suggests I must install standard versions and DCH will not install in my system. I will continue this in the new driver feedback thread as version 430.86 was released yesterday. Thank you for your help, mate :)
