This presentation, in collaboration with Mercedes, Siemens, and NVIDIA, demonstrates the performance gains when utilizing Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ on NVIDIA GPUs. Over the past decade, automotive companies have shifted toward a virtual design approach, leveraging computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools for early design validation, resulting in significant time and cost savings, issue prevention, and improved product performance.
Simulation is critical in developing electric vehicles like the Mercedes EQE, where aerodynamics directly impact range and aero-acoustics that affect passenger comfort. Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ plays a key role in predicting the performance. With the integration of a GPU solver, we show substantial performance enhancements, discussing their impact on the design process, alongside insights into other automotive simulation applications benefiting from GPU acceleration and the potential of the Grace Hopper architecture.
