Virtual Commissioning of AI Vision Systems With OpenUSD

Learn how vision systems for manufacturing can be built, trained, and tested completely in the virtual world. See how tools from Siemens and NVIDIA come together to provide an environment for building and testing complex AI-based automation systems completely virtually. Traditional virtual commissioning systems function by virtualizing system components such as programmable logic controllers, robots, human-machine interfaces, and other automation elements. This project seeks to enhance traditional virtual commissioning technologies by introducing virtualization of camera components to the virtual automation system. Camera simulation and synthetic data generation is accomplished through the use of Omniverse Replicator, working in conjunction with digital twin tools from Siemens. This allows for pre-training of AI models based entirely or primarily on synthetic data, and allows automation engineers to begin programming and system integration far earlier in the design process.
