Imaging Genetics : Methodological Approaches to Overcoming High Dimensional Barriers
, Erasmus MC
Imaging genetics is a rapidly growing field of research. Owing to the increasing availability of studies with both genetic and imaging data, novel methods come to reality. The combination of genetic and phenotype data provides new opportunities to discover not only genetic disease factors, but also directly connect phenotype with genetic variants — for instance, differences in brain structure caused by genes. We'll talk about obstacles in the field and their solutions. First, how the combination of the right data format and tensor algebra can dramatically accelerate genetic association analysis. Second, how deep learning and brain MRI can be used to derive novel biomarkers. Finally, how integration of biological knowledge into neural network architecture can convert a "black-box" into a fully explainable AI solution for genomics analysis.
