Virtual Surgical Assistants: Inception, Education, and Deployment
, Activ Surgical
Virtual surgical assistants are AI-based entities that aggregate surgical knowledge and deliver it in real time in any operating room anywhere in the world. Creating such entities involves acquiring multiple video datasets of surgical procedures and training various ML models to deliver surgical insights. We'll present our data framework, which includes data acquisition at the edge, transfer to cloud instances for model training and optimization, and delivery back to the edge as a real-time application in the operating room. We'll cover lessons learned along the way, from handling high-frame-rate data streams and benchmarking tools that can help determine your edge device's computation load requirements to best practices for transitioning a trained ML model to your edge device via various deployment strategies, as well as other factors to consider during the edge deployment process.
