The complexity of the power grid is growing exponentially as more distributed energy resources and intermittent renewables come online. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) can and should be a foundational platform for managing this emerging complexity and driving more value for customers. However, that requires a re-imagining of the technical specifications, capabilities, and outcomes that utilities and regulators expect from AMI. We'll explore how AMI can become the hub of grid-edge operations, if equipped with the right technology. Specifically, we'll address how accelerated computing via GPUs, machine learning, and artificial intelligence can deliver greater value to utilities and their customers, while also unlocking new opportunities for clean-energy companies and third-party market participants.
